Most guides cover taking coins off an exchange. Going the other way, from your own wallet back to an exchange so you can sell for ringgit or trade, has its own small traps. The wallet will happily send to any address on the network it is set to, and it cannot tell whether the exchange supports that network or needs a memo. A few checks on the exchange's deposit screen before you send make the difference between a routine deposit and a support ticket.

Open the deposit screen first

On the exchange, open Deposit, choose the coin and look at the list of networks. Pick the network your wallet is using for this coin. If your wallet holds the coin on a network the exchange does not list, do not send it; you will need to move it to a supported network first, or choose another coin. Read any notice on the screen about suspended deposits or the number of confirmations required.

Copy the address and any memo

After selecting the network, copy the deposit address. If the exchange shows a memo or tag field, copy that too, and paste it into the matching field in your wallet. Some wallets hide the memo field under an advanced option; look for it before sending. A deposit without a required memo often arrives at the exchange without being credited to your account, and recovering it can take a long time.

Paste, compare and send a test

In your wallet, paste the address and compare the first and last characters with the exchange screen. Make sure the wallet is set to the same network you selected on the exchange. Send a small amount first and wait for it to appear in the exchange deposit history as completed. Then send the rest. Keep the transaction hash for each transfer.

Selling and withdrawing to ringgit

Once the coins are credited, you may need to move them from the funding wallet to the spot wallet before trading, or use them directly in P2P. If you sell through P2P, follow the order screen exactly, keep the conversation inside the order chat and release coins only after the ringgit has arrived in your own bank account. Check your bank statement, not a screenshot sent by the buyer.

Scenario checkpoint

  • Select the network your wallet uses on the exchange deposit screen before copying anything.
  • Copy the memo or tag when shown and find the matching field in your wallet.
  • Compare the pasted address, confirm the wallet network and send a small test first.
  • In P2P, release coins only after ringgit arrives in your own bank account.
